Health Visitor

A Health Visitor is attached to the practice and has a major interest in child health care.  The doctor also runs Immunisation and Child Health Clinics at surgery on Thursdays at 11.00 until 13.00.  The GP and the practice nurse are present for any queries on these dates.

Practice Nurse Services

The practice nurse, Sarah  has clinics every week.  Chronic Disease management Clinics are held weekly, e.g. Diabetes, Asthma, Coronary Heart Disease, Hypertension, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

The nurse also does Well baby clinic, Cervical Smears, Contraception Advice, Referral to Smoking Cessation (Stop smoking services) and Travel Vaccinations.

Asthma Monitoring

The practice lead for Asthma is Nurse Sarah Danson. If you have any queries surounding this please contact the surgery and Sarah will be happy to help you.

Sarah will

• Regular structured review of asthma control. 6 monthly if well controlled. 3 monthly if poorly controlled.

• Minimum of 20 minute appointment

• Review your medication

• Assist and train you with your Inhaler techniques. Please bring your inhalers to your appointment.

• Personalised Asthma Action Plan (PAAP)

Health Care Assistant Services

Kauval has clinics on  Monday, Wednesday & Thursdays.  She carries out New Patient Health Checks, Bloods tests, NHS Health Checks, Blood Pressure checks, Mental Health reviews and flu injections.

Minor Operations

Dr Danson offers a minor operations surgery for joint injections.   Please book an appointment to discuss with Dr Danson.

Travel Vaccinations -

The Practice need at least 8 weeks notice before you travel.

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements at least 8 weeks before your date of travel. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 8 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.  We will endeavour to offer the immunisations as soon as possible but with less than 8 weeks notice and occasional constraints on nurse appointment availability due to demand, if we cannot give them before 2 weeks of travel we will advise going to a private clinic to make sure you receive them before 2 weeks of your travel date. 

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Well Baby Clinics at Werneth Primary Care Centre

Health visitors will be running on a weekly basis the well baby clinic at Werneth & Freehold Community Development Project on Tamworth Street, OL9 7DQ.

These clinics are held every Tuesday from 1.30pm to 3.00pm.

FREE NHS HEALTH CHECKS

Everyone is at risk of developing heart disease, stroke, diabetes or kidney disease.

The good news is that these conditions can often be prevented - even if you have a history of them in your family.  Have your free NHS Health Check and you will be better prepared for the future and be able to take steps to maintain or improve your health.

Who is eligible ?

• Both men and woman between 40 and 74 who has not been diagnosed with the conditions mentioned.

What happens at the check?

• The check will take around 20-30 minutes.

• You will be asked simple questions, for example about your families medical history.

• We will record your height, weight, age, sex and ethnicity.

• We will take your blood pressure.

• We will do a simple blood test to check cholesterol etc, this will be a fasting blood test.

Your local Children's Community Team care for children with a wide range of childhood illnesses.  They can help keep sick children out of hospital or get them home sooner by providing care at home.
